India, Pakistan Order Tit-for-Tat Expulsion of Embassy Officials

NEW DELHI India has expelled a Pakistani official from New Delhi for alleged espionage, sparking an unjustified tit-for-tat retaliation by Pakistan on Saturday, an official told AFP. Foreign Ministry spokesman K.C. Singh said a Pakistani official stationed in New Delhi was expelled Friday, adding that an Indian working in the visa section was on Saturday asked to leave Islamabad. India and Pakistan have expelled each other's diplomats three times this year.
The previous expulsions took place in March and October and involved officials in the visa section. Mutual charges of espionage between the neighbors, who have fought three wars over the last 50 years and staged rival nuclear blasts this May, are common. The expulsions come ahead of scheduled peace talks in February. (AFP)
